Framing Process:

1. Step One:

Choose an artwork or a print.  At Artgator, we uphold an extensive selection of premium art prints in addition to several thousand artworks showcased in our Fine Art Gallery.  The best way to pinpoint your selection would result from from utilizing our Advanced Search in order to set searchable parameters according to your requirements.

Advanced Search has been set up for easy navigation according to the following sections: Prints, Fine Art, Framed Oil Reproductions, Framed Mirrors, Ornate Frames, Art Accessories, and Sportgator.

2. Step Two:

Once you have made a selection, click on the   tab to initiate the Artgator Frame Shop window.

3. Step Three:

Choose a Moulding (Frame) - At Artgator; we only use the best mouldings available within the industry. All of our mouldings come from the top manufacturers in the industry selected carefully from around the world.

Choosing a Moulding - Since the moulding is the important outer part of your piece, its purpose is to bring your eyes back into the center of the artwork therefore, choose a moulding that best compliments your art not only in color and style, but also in width. Additionally, the moulding should be proportional to your work.  In choosing your moulding, you have the choice between Wood or Metal mouldings.

- Upon clicking the Wood Frame tab, you can select from the searchable parameters according to Finishes, Styles, Widths, and Price Selection ($, $$, $$$).

- Upon clicking the Metal Frame tab, you can either make a selection By Color or By Profile.

By Color - The color categories are as follow: Anodized and Metallics, Black-Grays, Blues, Browns-Beiges-Yellows, Faux-Patinas, Greens, Purples, Reds-Pinks, Whites, and X-Series-Cross Brushed.

By Profile - The profiles are categorized by numbers such as 28, 29, 38, and so forth.  Each profile is represented by Height, Face, and Rabbet sizes.

4. Step Four:

Choose a Mat - Artgator features Artcare Technology mats which actually extend the life of your artwork by slowing the process of paper degradation, neutralizing acid by-products, and protecting against damaging pollutants.  Please remember that choosing a mat is optional and should you choose to select a mat, you have the options of utilizing a Single Mat or a Double Mat.

Top Mat: Typically, the top mat should be a neutral color to set the artwork off. In some cases, you can use dominant colors if the artwork can handle intense colors. In accordance, please make sure that you do not put a strong color that will dominate your art work. The main objective by choosing a Top Mat is to compliment your art work and not over power it.

Bottom Mat: The Purpose of the bottom mat is to enhance the main theme of the artwork. Please note that all artworks do not require double matting. Usually if the artwork is colorful and vibrant, you can get away with only one mat to set it off.  Should the artwork possess openness around the edges, you may choose not to mat at all.  Upon choosing a mat, you will have the option to set parameters by Categories and Margins.

  • Categories - The categories are listed as follow: Fabric-Denim, Fabric-Flaxens, Fabric-Newthreads, Fabric-Suedes, Fabric-Raw Silks, Fabric-Silkens, Special-Precious Metals, Special-Crackles, Special-Parchments, Special-Classico, Special-Earthstones, and Special-Impressions.
  • Margins - The margins are set according to Top Mat and Bottom Mat.  The margin sizes that are available for the top mat are 2”, 2.5”, 3”, 3.5”, 4”, 4.5”, 5”, 5.5” and 6”.  The margin sizes that are available for the bottom mat are 0.25” and 0.5”.

5. Step Five:

Choose a Fillet – A fillet is a very thin moulding used as an accent in framing inside another moulding or liner. It is sometimes used under the glazing at the edge of the mat window opening. Some framers also refer to edge of an under mat (a thin border that shows around the artwork) as a fillet.  Please note that this is an option service that we offer at Artgator.

6. Step Six:

Choose a Glazing – Glazing is a broad term that includes a wide variety of glass and acrylic products used to finish and protect framed artwork. Varieties include regular picture framing glass, conservation/preservation glass and acrylic, anti-reflective and non-glare glass.  At Artgator, we only use the best acrylic available within the art industry. All our Plexiglas are 3/16th of an inch in thickness. There are four types of Plexiglas:

Regular Plexiglas - Similar to regular glass and has a glossy finish.

Non-Glare Plexiglas - Has a matte finish and does not reflect light.

U.V. Plexiglas - Similar to regular Plexiglas but features Ultra Violet protection so your artwork will not fade due to sun light or even artificial light.

U.V. Non-Glare Plexiglas - Similar to Non-Glare Plexiglas but features Ultra Violet protection so your artwork will not fade due to sun light or even artificial light.

7. Step Seven:

Select a Wall Color - By choosing a wall color, you will be able to view the selected artwork as it would be represented on the wall that you would like to hang the artwork.

8. Step Eight:
